“Dream big. Start small. But most of all, start.”
I love this quote from Simon Sinek, the bestselling author of Start With Why. It gives us permission to dream as big as we want. But it also comes with a warning: you gotta start somewhere.
If you’ve been following my posts, you’ve already taken inventory of what’s not working your life, then you’ve created your “dream list” of what you DO want.
Now, it’s time to “start small.” Here’s a strategy I love that I learned from The OolaGuys, Dr. Dave Braun and Dr. Troy Amdahl, founders of the worldwide Oola Coaching Network. The three of us are working together to bring my followers an effective path to the life you want—where you’re balanced, happy, and growing. We call it the OolaLife.
Today’s Oola strategy is pretty simple: grab your list of “wants,” then start circling the top 7 things on your list that would immediately change your life—from the money you earn, to the lifestyle you enjoy, to the mentors you have, to the career you’re pursuing, and more.
Choose 7 things.
Then make a list of steps—however small—that you can take to bring those 7 outcomes into your life.
If you want to move up in your company, for instance—because you know a better job would mean more pay—make a list of the things you need to learn or do in order to get the promotion you want.
If your dream list includes spending every summer at the beach, make a list of what you’ll need to do to rent a house, work remotely, get extra vacation time or otherwise make it happen.
Once you have your steps written down, you’ll be better able to tackle them one by one. And in my next post, I’ll give you a super easy formula for achieving baby steps toward your goals every day.
Of course, to stay on track with your goals (when it’s so easy to get distracted), I’m happy to be your coach and accountability partner. Message me and we can jump on a 30-minute call to discuss what coaching is like and how it can work for you. Or check out the Oola Coaching Program for details.
